How To Avoid Yo-Yo Dieting!

Yo-yo dieting is fairly common, unfortunately. Basically, it is any case where you lose a lot of weight while you are dieting only to gain that much or more back after you go off of the diet in question. Of course, people do tend to try going on another diet after that, but often with the same results. Their weight just goes up and down, like a yo-yo.

Yo-yo dieting is not healthy. Not only that, but it is horrible for your self-esteem. It can be awful to lose all of that weight only to pack the pounds back on. Its an embarrassment and it can be depressing and frustrating.

Fight The Yo-Yo Process!

If you want to fight the yo-yo process, you need to start by having a long-term approach. You shouldn't be going on fad diets or using any methods that cannot be maintained. If you do, you'll only put the weight back on. Don't look at it as dieting. Look at it as a lifestyle change.

What's Wrong With Dieting?

Just the word "diet" can put you in a negative mood. After all, a diet generally means depriving yourself of foods that you enjoy. Not only that, but many diets are difficult to reconcile with daily life. For example, what happens if you need to go to a wedding, go on vacation or even go out to dinner with friends? It's a good bet that your diet will be instantly set aside.

The Solution!

The solution is to not diet, but just adjust your lifestyle. Of course, you should do that in small doses. For example, start by drinking more water every day. Then start taking a walk around your neighborhood each day or biking to work instead of driving. Hydration and exercise are great for weight loss, but there's no reason to over do things right away.

You can and should also find healthy snacks that you actually like and surround yourself with them. For example, grapes, strawberries and blueberries are all sweet and healthy. So, they can be great quick snacks or desserts.

Basically, there is no reason at all that you should even need to go on a yo-yo diet, if you make the right lifestyle choices. The most important thing is just to be patient with the process. The slower your weight loss is, generally, the easier it should be to maintain it going forward.
