Between 30 and 50 years old there are many changes which appear: life as a couple, pregnancy and children, emotional disturbances (sometimes even a divorce), professional events and not forgetting about the many diets already tried until this age. All these events from the life of an adult may leave a mark on your body.
This age will be in close relation with your emotional and personal stability. You have probably had enough of all those restrictive and somehow unrealistic diets, which have disastrous long term effects: the organism will adapt at these new conditions, so that you have to eat less to be able to maintain a certain weight.
In this period of time, weight gain is not at all to be neglected. Without having to worry (it is quite normal to have 5 kg more in your weight), you can try to recover your weight when you think the situations gets out of control.
Weight Gain Causes
1. Life as a Couple
You have enjoying your life as a couple, but this may have unpleasant consequences to your body. Your husband have to eat more than you (in average, there are needed 2,400cal for men and 1,800cal for women) and unfortunately, you may tend to compete with him.
2. Pregnancy & Children
After your pregnancy has left its mark on your body, at present your refrigerator is full of good staff for your children. With so many temptations around you, it is rather hard to resist.
3. Unrealistic Weight Diets
You have probably already tried a bunch of different diets: diets with proteins, cabbage soups or food substitutes. Of course, you have probably managed to lose some weight, but you have also put those a few pounds that you have lost back as soon as you have stopped your diet and probably put a few pounds back as well.
4. The Advantages of your Age
By now, you already know what is important to you and in time, you have learnt to control your eating behavior.
Our Advises
1. Maintain a well Balanced Diet
Although you know the principles of a well balanced diet, it happens that you can not apply them every day. However, an active life is not necessarily incompatible with the joy of having a nice body. The first step will be the planning of your meals in detail, remembering to allow yourself enough time to have a consistent breakfast every day. This way, you will manage to lose a few pounds without too much effort.
2. Try to Eat in Moderation
Try to do not eat as much as your children or your husband: their nutritional necessities may be much higher than yours. You can indulge yourself at times, but taking care of your body as well (for instance, fruit puree or grain bread).
3. Do Not Take the Pasta Completely from your Diet
Unlike the general opinion of people, the pasta does not contain too much calories; for instance, 50g of bread have around 125cal, as much as 125g of rice. More than that, these aliments have the property to quickly kill hunger. That it is why, the pasta must be included in your daily diet, at every meal if possible, but in small quantities (and in close relation with the physical activity).
4. Do Not Take the Lipids Completely from your Diet
You have probably heard a thousand times that the lipids have many calories (10g of butter have 75cal. - 10g of oil have 90cal.) and that a food intake high in fat is a factor of cardiovascular risk. While that it is mostly true, having to take the lipids completely out of your diet is not a solution either. If you take oil completely out of your diet, you will no longer consume unsaturated fatty acids, which have an important role in the health of nervous cells and of skin. If you will not consume butter at all or if you choose to only consume fat dairy products, it may lead to lack of vitamin A and D, which are included in the milk fat. So, include in your daily diet 10g of butter and 10g of oil.
5. Try to Consume Enough Dairy Food
To be able to have solid bones and to reduce the osteoporosis risks, adults will have to consume in average about 1,200mg of Ca daily. For this to happen, it is highly important to consume every day 3 or 4 diary products, choosing from: milk, yogurt or cheese. With or without any fat, dairy products contain a lot of Ca.
